PERTINENT PLANT PROCEDURES

1.  Your plant will arrive "bare root".  Unpack your fans and rejuvenate by soaking in a pail of water (covering just the roots) overnight.  They may remain in the water a couple of days, however the water will smell rancid.

2.  Select a sunny location where a plant receives at least 5 hours of sunlight.  (The success of your daylily is based on 5 hours or more of sunlight and 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water per week.

3.  Dig a hole and amend the soil if necessary.  Begin at the bottom of the hole and build a mound with the soil.

4.  Slightly trim the roots an inch or two, and the foliage to about 6 inches to encourage root development.  Spread the roots over the mound allowing them to fall over the mound.  BEWARE: do not plant too deeply.  The crown (where the foliage and roots converge) should be no deeper than 1 inch below ground level.  Pull the soil around the plant, filling the hole.  Tap down the soil and water well.  We usually use a product such as Miracle Gro Quick Start for the initial watering.

5.  Water regularly for the first week or two.  If the outside leaves die, don't be alarmed.  New leaves will appear as soon as your plant adjusts to its new environment.

6.  With good fortune and mother nature's cooperation you will see your plant bloom this season.  Enjoy the bloom and complement yourself on a choice well made.
